The Corps of Engineers Is Seeking Park Hosts For Multiple Locations In Massachusetts

Welcome to beautiful New England! We are looking for patriots to join our team at Buffumville Lake and Hodges Village Dam. No, I’m not talking about football- those New England Patriots don’t need our help. Besides, I’m a Packer’s fan, being half cheese-head (my mother was born and raised in Green Bay). Hi, I’m Park Ranger Jamie and here’s your invitation to learn more about the USACE and our rural, picturesque sites and to tempt you to join us in 2017. We have 5 full hookup sites in total at two projects. We have two positions still unfilled One of the three Park Attendant Contracts is going back out to bid until 3/16/17. This is for a team-of-two We have one of our two Park Host Volunteer Positions up for grabs, as well. Let’s start with the Contracts at Buffumville Lake: Located in South-Central MA, Buffumville Lake has over 500 acres of which 200 acres is the permanent lake or pool. We have a day-use park that can accommodate 300 vehicles and includes a 225’ long soft, sandy beach, under-the-pines picnic area, 2 shelters, a water bourn restroom, volleyball court and horseshoe pit. This park is where all 3 PA contractors have their full hookup sites. The amenities include a 50 amp service, septic tie-in, well water, local phone, storage barn and use of an electric golf-cart. The 3 private motor home sites are separated from the park picnic area. The park is open from 8 am to 8 pm, 7 days a week starting mid May to mid September. For 12 hours each day, a PA team of two people is responsible for fee collection and janitorial services. We’ll be looking to fill Park Attendant #1, which is Sundays and Mondays (or 35 days out of the whole summer) Next I’ll tell you about the Buffumville Dam Park Host Volunteer Position: Separated from the park by a ½ mile, this is our newest site, located directly behind our office and right next to the dam’s riprap. Surrounding the damsite is New England’s largest disc golf course. We’d love to have a host that would love to add some landscaping and possibly a garden in this location. At our office we have a full laundry setup for everyone to use. Acceptance of all positions are contingent upon a successful background check with finger printing. For the volunteer positions, we are pretty flexible with arrival(April/May) and departure (September/October) dates. A minimum of 20 hours per person per week is expected. The days/times are flexible and pretty much dictated by visitation and weather. Basically, the job entails the daily patrol of the damsite buildings and lawn areas, disc golf course and parking lots to pick up trash, clean restrooms and interact with the public. And weekly patrol and light maintenance of the various trails. We hire 3 summer rangers that work every weekend and Holidays. They have overlapping shifts for the best coverage. And we are a permanent staff of 4 allowing full coverage with a duty ranger on every weekend and holiday. So future teammates, this is what we are looking for in our perspective Workampers: 1) Mature, flexible people-persons who are good at meeting and greeting the public, able to be friendly to all ages and backgrounds. Folks with great communication skills to convey the parks rules and regulations. And a team that is wise and confident enough to handle ever changing situations. 2) A team experienced in handling money, running a cash register and doing remittances. 3) The couple must be physically able to pick up trash and bags of trash, up to 30 lbs. Mopping floors, wiping surfaces and cleaning toilets are part of the job. Be aware, it's not always glamorous! If you are interested in being a volunteer Park Host, please call me for an interview. My Direct office phone # 978-318-8399. Email- Jamie.r.kordack@usace.army.mil. If you are interested in Park Attendant Contracts at BVL or any of the other Corps sites in New England for that matter, you’ll need to make sure New England District’s Contracting Directorate has your name/address/phone/and email. I would very much love to speak with you as well. That way we can share information, I can send/or email you pictures, I can help you attain your Duns and Bradstreet Number, etc. before the bid processing begins. I look forward to hearing from you….
