Camp Host Wanted at YMCA Camp Sherwin in Pennsylvania

YMCA Camp Sherwin is located in Lake City, PA on the shores of Lake Erie, between Walnut Creek and Elk Creek Access areas. It is a public campground with tent, RV, Seasonal Sites, and Cabins. Facilities are also available for weddings and group events. YMCA Summer Camp Day Programs also are operated from this site. Camp Sherwin also holds wellness programs, community events and weekend family activities for all ages and interest groups. Hosts will set an example by being model campers observing all rules and regulations. Our volunteer hosts can be individuals or teams such as a husband and wife. Must be over 21 years old. The schedule will be flexible enough for host to still enjoy the many resources of Erie County. Camp Sherwin Campground hosts perform a variety of tasks, such as greeting customers, coordinating weekend activities/events, and cleaning up cabins/campsites. They will also perform light maintenance work around the campground such as sweeping and stocking supplies at the shower houses, mowing the lawn and other yard work, help setting up the halls for rentals, helping with small construction projects, making emergency minor repairs when possible, informing the Camp Director about potential problems, and various other duties. Hosts need to become familiar with local points of interest and the location where local services can be obtained, e.g. fuel, lp, laundromat, groceries. On duty hours include weekend hours and holiday hours and will be mutually agreed between the manager and host. The manager will approve specific duty hours and assignments not to exceed 30 hours per week. We are seeking host campers from May 16 – July 10, July 10 – Sept 10, Sept 11 – Nov 5, 2016. (May be earlier than May 16 if the new hosts are interested in coming sooner) Hosts provide their own RV/tent and are provided a free campsite with utility hookups and access to WIFI. Inside/Office Position: This position is an active position at our reservation front desk and requires a happy personality. You know how it goes “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. Job Details: computerized reservation system for the booking of reservations, checking in arriving customers, checking out departing customers, some word processing, answering emails, back office organization such as (filing, maintaining housekeeping records, and petty cash maintenance). Along with the camping duties we have a retail store that would require retail sales to be recorded using the same reservation software and candy counter sales. This is the bulk of the position and these duties once training has ended can be performed most of the time by one person. There are times like Friday check-in and Holidays when more help will be provided. The hours for this position are 25-30hrs/week. More hours are possible. Scheduling is done between the three people that alternate in this position. Every attempt is made to make the schedule fare and enjoyable for all. Days off are usually consecutive and decided upon your arrival. Outside Maintenance Position: This position involves the general upkeep of the campsites and cleaning of restrooms/cabins when the main cleaning crew is unable to perform their regular duties. Other duties will include grass trimming, hayrides using our golf cart, and the running of certain children’s activities. The hours for this position are 25-30hrs/week. More hours are possible. One of the most important jobs is our pump out service for the seasonals. This is done once a week and we use state of the art equipment so it’s easy and clean. Below is an example of what a representative work week could look like:     OUTSIDE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE     This is not your schedule and just attempts to show what a typical day could be.     Monday – Open Pool & Game Room o Pick up cleaning staff o Open Mill, grass, painting, landscaping o Maintenance Fire rings and items from maintenance book o Close Mill o Close Pool & Game Room     Tuesday & Wednesday o Off (Close Pool & Game Room if possible)     Thursday - Repeat Monday     Friday  – Open Pool and Game Room o Pick Up cleaning staff o Grass, landscaping, where needed arrange tables o Close Pool & Call Bingo o Close Game Room     Saturday – Hayride o Maintenance book o Close Pool & Call Bingo o Close Game Room     Sunday – Open Pool & Game Room o Maintenance book o Clean Cabins, if needed o Treasure Hunt o Activities (Pool) o Pump out Service o Garbage left by Campers  & Fire Rings o Close Pool & Game Room     This schedule could change a bit based on customer demands and the intensity of business. This is most of what I believe to be the “jobs” here at Mill Bridge. The only other thing we ask our workampers to do is be a bit flexible.
