The City of Mankato is seeking a volunteer campground host. Duties and responsibilities are described below. Definition: Campground hosts work with the Parks and Forestry Foreperson, acting as host and performing maintenance functions at the Land of Memories Campground. Equipment/Job Location: The Campground Host site is located at Land of Memories Campground. Host may vary and can be expected to include hours during the day, evening, and weekends. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Greet and welcome visitors to the campground, provide information and supplies, assist with light housekeeping and maintenance functions of the municipal campground and serve as an emergency contact person for the campground. These activities include camper check in; campground record keeping; light cleaning and maintenance of camper sites and restroom and shower buildings; sell firewood and ice, loan equipment, assists with special events and notify park staff or law enforcement when emergencies arise. Attendance during regularly scheduled hours. Hours may vary. Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other volunteers, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and citizen customers. Performs other manual labor and related functions as required or assigned. Knowledge of camping and the operation and maintenance of a campground. We are seeking interesting people who enjoy outdoor recreation, meeting new people and operating a very successful campground. The camp host will work under direct supervision of the Operations Superintendent and will be used within their ability to perform specific duties. The camp host serves as a "live in" host and must possess good communications skills, good manners and a helpful attitude. In addition, the camp host will be required to perform routine maintenance that includes manual labor consisting of day-to-day maintenance and cleaning of campsites and toilet/shower facilities. This may include servicing restrooms, cleaning and repairing tables, fire rings and camp sites, lawn mowing, weed eating, and other repairs as needed in the campground. The camp host will set an example by being a model camper, practice good housekeeping at all times in and around the host site and by observing all the rules. The camp host will take no law enforcement measures other than being an observant and advising user of unintentional infractions. The camp host may be asked to serve as a witness for flagrant violations that have been observed. In exchange for their services and duties, the camp host will be offered a campsite, utility hook- ups and a monthly salary. The camp host will be required to provide services five (5) days per week to include weekends and holidays. They may be off two days during the week.
