You’ll find great Destin, Florida campgrounds and RV parks listed below that are suitable for RV camping and a few that allow tent camping. There are campsites listed where you can walk from your RV to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and enjoy the white sand beaches along the beautiful Emerald Coast.
The only private campground that we know of that has tent camping is Camp Gulf RV Park that allows tents at their North Upper Park Sites 111 through 117. In addition, sleeping tents are permitted if you have an RV at sites in the Upper and North Upper sections of the park.
Tent camping is more abundant at the Florida State Parks in the area. Henderson Beach State Park is the closest to Destin and has 60 campsites available to both tenters and RV camping. Further away is Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park (13 miles to Destin) with 42 camping spots for either tents or RVs and Topsail Hill Preserve State Park (about 14 miles from Destin) that has 22 tent campsites. If you intend to bring Fido the family dog along for the vacation be aware that restrictions on pets may be more stringent for tenting, or not permitted at all.
For RV camping in the Destin area, you’ll find most of the sites are full-hookup with water, electricity and sewer and Wi-Fi, cable TV, fitness rooms, heated pools, picnic tables and grills, bathhouses and restrooms, laundry facilities, planned activities and more are fairly common at the privately-owned campgrounds and RV parks. One of the distinct advantages that commercial campgrounds offer is long-term space rental where you can stay for months at a time. With State Park camping you’ll be limited to a maximum two-week stay and most, but not all, public campgrounds offer limited hookups and a separate dump station.
While you’re camping in the area there are plenty of things to do and see including the most popular being the beautiful white sand beaches along the Gulf of Mexico. There are tours, fishing from shore or piers, shopping, restaurants, wildlife viewing, charter fishing, golfing, parasailing, hiking nature trails, kayaking, and much more.
It is your pleasant task to find the camping destination to suit your individual needs and we hope this short area directory will help you narrow down your choices quickly. Destin is a very popular tourist location so it is advisable that before you leave home you should book a reservation as far as possible in advance. Most, but not all, campgrounds listed allow family pets, but usually, pets must be confined to a leash or restricted to RV park premises. A few campgrounds do not allow pets.
