Marsh Haven Nature Center Is Looking For Volunteers For 2024 Season In Wisconsin
Marsh Haven Nature Center, Waupun Wisconsin. This is a 46-acre private, non-profit environmental education facility with nature center, overnight bunkhouse and tent camping accommodations, hiking trails, and educational programs. Marsh Haven has about three-miles of hiking trails through wetland, woodland, and prairie, a 10-acre pond visited by waterfowl, campfire area and picnic shelter.
Marsh Haven Nature Center is located adjacent to the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge and the Horicon Marsh, a Wetland of International Importance and the largest freshwater cattail marsh in the US. Over 300 different species of birds have been seen in the area, so it is a prime birding location. Nearby canoeing/kayaking in the Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area, and miles of hiking and biking trails on the Wild Goose State Recreational Trail and the Horicon Marsh. The city of Waupun is located 2.5 miles away and has a public library, aquatic center, summer concert series, laundromats, grocery store, restaurants, and other amenities.
Volunteer should be comfortable speaking to the public, outgoing, energetic, professional, enjoy meeting new people and physically able to conduct light maintenance duties. Duties are flexible but could include upkeep of visitor facilities, staffing visitor center, assisting with public events, and performing maintenance duties such as trail work, general cleanup, and landscaping, – weekend work required.
The 2024 Season runs April 23-December 11. Looking for volunteers during peak visitor time of May 1 – Labor Day. Time frame commitment is flexible.
Required: 20-30 hours/week. Hours are flexible. Provided: gravel pad, 50-amp RV site, 300 gallon holding tank, water hookup, picnic table, Wi-Fi in main building. This is an unpaid position.
