Volunteer Host Position Description
Position Title: Volunteer Host
Description:
St. Joseph Bay State Buffer Preserve is a 5,027 acre Preserve in the Florida panhandle. Volunteers utilize their skills to aid in maintaining the Preserve.
Volunteers are required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week (per site).
Volunteers can only fill up to a four-month block of time each year.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Must maintain a positive attitude and work well with others.
- Must be able to attend the 8:00am staff meetings.
- Must maintain a clean and organized volunteer host site.
- Must maintain an occupancy and visible presence in the Preserve after normal business hours and on weekends.
- Ability to operate small, motorized equipment.
o Example: UTV’s, lawn mowers and handheld blowers. - Ability to clean basic household areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, and bedrooms areas.
- Ability to greet and provide visitors and researchers with maps and information about the Preserve and surrounding area with a smile!
- Ability to secure facilities after 4:00pm on weekdays.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to help with programs and tours within the Preserve.
- Desire to learn about the surrounding area and speak with visitors about its history.
Hazards and/or Caution
- Safety is a top priority! The use of safety equipment is required for all jobs.
- Physical exertion and exposure to Florida weather and biting insects; precautions should be taken.
