Anastasia State Park and Anastasia Island

Anastasia Island is a barrier island approximately 14 miles long and is home to the communities of Butler Beach, Coquina Gables, Crescent Beach, St. Augustine Beach, and Treasure Beach. In addition to popular beaches, restaurants, hotels, condominiums, and shopping. In addition to Anastasia State Park, there are several campgrounds offering a range of services for camping.

Anastasia State Park is a wonderful destination point if you love miles of beach, beautiful tidal marsh, nature trail hiking, a rich variety of plants and animals, swimming, birding, bicycling, fishing, camping, and more.

Whether you are tent or RV camping, there are 139 campsites available with electricity, water, picnic table, grill, and fire ring. You can make reservations up to 11 months in advance. The website you need to visit for your reservation is maintained by ReserveAmerica. Sites can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet in length. There is a dump station for black and gray water.

Additional amenities for campers include four bathhouses with showers. There is also a convenient laundry facility. Pets are welcome in the park but must be on a leash that is no longer than 6 feet.

There is a gift shop and a grill that serves fresh food. If you need Wi-Fi service you can go online at the grill/gift shop location. Also, you’ll be able to rent canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, sailboats, and bicycles at the concession area.

The highlight for most people visiting Anastasia State Park is the four miles of beach where you can swim, beach comb, bike, fish, collect shells, take in the sun and walk in the surf. Although motorized traffic is not allowed on the beach, there are beach wheelchairs available at no cost.

There are some rules and restrictions you must observe including being aware that pets are not permitted on the beach and to prevent damage to fragile vegetation visitors are not allowed to enter the sand dunes.

Surfing is a popular activity all year at Anastasia State park. Surfers should be extra careful of strong tidal activity and rip currents.

If you intend to swim in the ocean find out what warnings have been posted about dangerous rip currents. Generally, there is a lifeguard on duty between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Watch out for dangerous marine life such as stingrays, stinging jellyfish and sharks. When you’ve finished your day at the beach there are restrooms that have outdoor showers so you can wash away the salt and sand.

You can picnic at one of the park’s three picnic areas (accessible). Both the Sea Turtle and Windsurf Picnic Pavilions are available for rental. Kids will enjoy playing at one of the three playgrounds located within the park.

Visitors to the park will also enjoy the Ancient Dunes Trail loops and the Coquine Quarry historic site. The Old Fort (Castillo de San Marcos National Monument) located in St. Augustine was constructed from materials mined in this section of the State Park.

Another highlight for campers and visitors is the St. Augustine Amphitheater where a Farmer’s market is held every Saturday and a number of activities are held at the Amphitheater.

One of the more popular activities in the park revolves around the observation of wildlife. Anastasia State Park is home to a wide variety of seabirds and is located on The Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail. In addition to a rich variety of feathered creatures, you’ll enjoy watching out for dolphins, stingrays, crabs manatees, sea turtles, and an enormous variety of species of fish.

For more information about the park and events visit https://www.floridastateparks.org/park/Anastasia. To secure your reservation visit ReserveAmerica.

Faver-Dykes State Park Camping and Campground
Faver-Dykes State Park
1000 Faver-Dykes Road
St. Augustine, FL 32086
Telephone: (904) 794-0997
Website: https://www.floridastateparks.org/park/faver-dykes

Along its south boundary, Faver-Dykes offers visitors access to Pellicer Creek, famous for its status as a designated canoe trail, impressive birding opportunities, fishing, and camping. With easy access from Interstate 95 or Highway 1, you’re not far away from the history and attractions at Saint Augustine.

The campground facilities and amenities accommodate both tent and RV camping with 30 developed campsites featuring water, electricity, a picnic table, and a fire ring/grill. A dump station is available for dumping gray and black water. Sites can accommodate RVs up to 25 to 35 feet in length.

In addition, there is a designated primitive youth camping area for up to 50 people with a fire ring and pit toilet available. You can reserve the youth camping area by calling the Park at (904) 794-0997.

A couple of restrictions that must be observed concern pets and alcohol consumption. Pets are permitted, but restricted to the campground area and must be leashed. Drinking alcoholic beverages is restricted to campers within their campsites.

Additional facilities include ADA-accessible amenities at the hot showers and restrooms. There are picnic pavilions, picnic tables, grills, and restrooms. One of the pavilions can be rented for special occasions by calling the Park. There is a playground for the children in the picnic area that includes swings and a slide.

There are four natures, with a half-mile beginning in the picnic area through Longleaf Pine and Turkey Oak trees and you can see Pellicer Creek and the salt marsh. Another half-mile trail (Campground Nature Trail) begins at site 15 in the campground section. Then there are the Hiram Faver and Pine Loop trails which connect together and provide miles of walking through native trees, grasses, and shrubs. Also, with advance permission, you can hike backwoods and boundary roads. The park provides areas for bicycle riding.

In addition to canoe paddling, fishing is a perennial favorite activity among Park visitors. There are freshwater and saltwater fish species caught in Pellicer Creek. The saltwater fish arrive from the neighboring Matanzas River. Closer up to the creek headwaters is where you’ll catch bream and largemouth bass and saltwater fish caught include snook, drum seatrout, and others. You’ll have to make yourself aware of Florida fishing regulations and have a valid fishing license when you fish in the Park. You’ll be able to launch your canoe, kayak, or boat at the boat ramp on Pellicer Creek.

Campers and visitors flock to this Park to take advantage of the opportunities to view resident birds native to the area as well as the fall and spring migrant bird populations. You’ll get to enjoy an amazing variety of bird species including songbirds, raptors, and wading birds. Be prepared to see wild turkey, deer, river otters, bobcats, and more mammals native to this area of Florida.

You can make your reservation to stay at the Faver-Dykes State Park through the ReserveAmerica website. Depending on which direction you drive (a 20-mile loop traveling either north or south) you can also visit Marineland, where a portion of the classic movie Creature from the Black Lagoon was filmed in the early 1950s.

About eight miles away you’ll also have access to the 1,500 acre Princess Place Preserve where there is additional primitive camping, bicycling, canoeing, and kayaking, fishing, hiking and horse trails, wildlife, and restroom facilities. For more information about the Princess Place Preserve visit http://www.flaglercounty.org/departments/princess_place_preserve/index.php.
