BLM Horning Tree Seed Orchard Is Looking For On Site Host Volunteer(S) In Oregon

By Bureau of Land Management Horning Tree Seed Orchard – Colton Oregon (Camp Host to Assist BLM Staff with Orchard, Compound, Building and Equipment maintenance and Tree Health and Vigor)
Volunteer site host position(s) available at BLM Seed Orchard. The Walter H. Horning Seed Orchard is a 800-acre BLM facility located near Colton, OR, about 30 miles SE of Portland. This position is available now March 2024 but the start date is flexible. This is a year around position for the right person(s).
The volunteer site host maintains a presence on the administrative site to provide security and assist the six person BLM staff with a variety of tasks.
The responsibilities include but are not limited to maintenance and upkeep of building, equipment and grounds, as well as assisting staff with many tasks within the tree orchard and greenhouses to produce seed and to maintain the health and vigor of the orchard trees.
The basic requirements for the host include ability to work in high grass on uneven ground for periods up to two hours at a time. Be able to pass a BLM security screening (background check). Have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Enjoy and be able to perform various landscape maintenance activities on our ½ acre lawn and landscape areas. Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing directions and needs as essential.
Knowledge of and ability to operate and maintain tractors and their implements is a plus.

The BLM requires a minimum of 24 hours/week of volunteer/host time in exchange for providing the following accommodations:

  • A gravel pad with full hookups including a lawn and access to the garden and fruit trees.
  • Propane, power, water, septic, washer and dryer, and unlimited WiFi.
  • Access to the Seed Orchard facilities which consists of a commercial kitchen, lunchroom, bunkhouse, mechanic shop, woodworking shop, tractor shed, office, greenhouses, and other misc. buildings.
  • All approved expenses are reimbursed.
  • There is a reimbursement paid monthly by direct deposit that is based on how many days you provided 24 hours of your presence for the security of the grounds and facilities.

The Orchard is in a rural forested setting with a fantastic view of Mt Hood.
Well behaved pets are welcome.
We are a working facility charged with producing tree seed for our customers.
Although there is occasional contact with the public, it is minimal and as such many of the usual campground host duties do not apply to this position.
Retired couples or a retired single person who is fit and energetic are encouraged to apply.

Camp Dakota Adventures Is Looking For Individuals Or Couples In Oregon $$

Camp Dakota AdventuresPosition Description:

This is a seasonal position with the opportunity to live on site. We are looking for individuals (or couples) who love the outdoor lifestyle, work well with others, and have a can-do attitude.

Pay range: RV site + utilities + $15 per hour – All hours are paid however the free RV site requires that you work a minimum of 30 hours per week

Paid Time Off earned @ one hour for every 30 hours worked
Optional Simple IRA with 3% matching employer contribution* available after the first $5,000.00 earned
Optional Health Insurance after 60 days

  • Must have valid drivers license and a reliable vehicle
  • Must pass a background check and drug test
