RV Camping

Full-Time RV Living – Should You Try It Out First?

RV Camping on a full-time basis is a dramatic change from weekend or vacation RV camping in an RV park campground. You definitely may want to test out the full-time RVing lifestyle before you go and sell everything you have.

By all means, should you have any doubts about the full-time RV camping lifestyle whatsoever, do a few trial runs. You may find that the RV’ing lifestyle is not at all what you thought it was going to be.

We all have a tendency to romanticize our dreams and then reality shows up. The only way to know for sure is to actually get out on the road and stay in a few RV campground parks.

Use your vacation time to go RV camping. Go on weekends. Rent an RV if necessary. Instead of going to the local state park, Corps of Engineers campground, or national park, go stay in an ordinary, run-of-the-mill RV park. If you have to work to pay your way while traveling, you are going to be spending a great deal of your time living in an RV campground park.

Believe me, living in an RV park versus a state park campground or similar destination place, is quite a contrast. Most RV campgrounds are often not destination points.

Testing The Full-Time Lifestyle
Lost in America, a view from the highway.

Better yet, if you already have an RV, hook it up in your driveway, or in the back yard of your home, and try living in it. Yes, move in. If you have to work to pay your way while you travel, you are going to find that in many ways life will remain the same. You’ll get up every day, go to work, come home and wait for the weekend. Not much different from everyday life, except you will be living in a very tiny space, most likely with another person.

You are going to find that there is no privacy to speak of. Can you deal with that on a long-term basis? Really? You’re going to be living in extremely close quarters, and if you aren’t constantly able to move on to new adventures, you’ll have to face the daily grind while you wait for your next adventure. This can test a relationship. If possible, figure this out before you sell your home, if you own one, and all your stuff. You may discover that RV’ing is the life you were meant for. You also may discover you would’ve been better off doing something different.

Again, if you have the opportunity, try the RV Camping lifestyle with a trial run or two. It may answer a lot of vital, life-altering questions.
