Introduction
The campground host program is designed as a volunteer program and is used to supplement our staffing efforts. Hosts provide a variety of services to park management, staff, and visitors. The duties are subject to change as needs are identified and seasonal demand varies. Our hosts work up to 35 hours per week, per site. This time frame will include weekends, nights, and holidays.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Welcome campers by answering questions, explaining regulations, and serving as a PR person.
  • Drive the guests on the campground shuttle to and from the Visitor’s Center Downtown, McLeod Plantation and/or Folly Beach.
  • Assist in the registration building with campground patrol and mail delivery.
  • Responsible for campground recycling.
  • Bag ice, stock, straighten and maintain campground store.
  • Do litter patrols throughout the campground.
  • Maintenance of golf carts, park trucks, and vans. i.e., gas levels, oil levels, cleanliness, etc.
  • Odd jobs of maintaining the campground such as cleaning out firepits, repairing picnic tables, as well as special projects as they arise.
  • During the Holiday season (Oct.-Dec.), duties will also include support for the Holiday Festival of Lights.
  • Help with set-up of light displays and gift shops as needed.
  • Shuttling campers around the light show at night.
  • Evening shifts in various areas of the festival. Ex. staffing the train, carousel, and walking trails.

Requirements

  • Must be positive, possess a friendly personality, and a willing attitude.
  • Must be familiar with, and adhere to, all rules and regulations of the Charleston County Park and Recreation
  • Commission as described in the Seasonal Employee Handbook.
  • Required to wear a PRC uniform when on duty and present a neat appearance at all times.
  • Required to work daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
  • Must be comfortable interacting with the public and large crowds.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to drive 15 passenger van.
  • Able to work in an outdoor environment and in varying weather conditions.
  • Willing to get wet and/or dirty.
  • Must be able to climb ladders.
  • Required to lift, handle and move equipment such as blowers, ladders, etc. which will require you to be able to safely lift 20lbs.
  • Must practice good housekeeping at all times in and around their campsite.

Hosts will work a maximum of 35 hours per week in exchange for a full hook-up campsite. Applicants chosen will receive a reciprocal pass which will allow entrance into various local points of interest free of charge. Applicants will also receive free entrance to all PRC parks, 20% off all food items and sundry items at all PRC parks, and free boat and bike rentals at all PRC parks per availability.
