Come explore the outdoor wonders of Downeast Maine and Acadia National Park. Whether you like to hike, kayak, bike or simply explore the coast & forests, there is always something for everyone here in Maine. The Island Explorer’s outstanding team of bus drivers is now welcoming new full and part-time members for our 2027 season (June through October). Starting pay is $24.00/ hour with flexible schedules, and night and weekend differentials. Drivers must have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Passenger endorsement. I have thoroughly enjoyed the 2 months my husband and I have worked for Island Explorer. I already feel a part of the Island Explorer family and as though I have known my co-workers for years. For years, I would vacation in Bar Harbor for a few weeks from Connecticut and always took notice of how happy the Island Explorer employees seemed to be. I would talk to them and ride their buses. When I was able to move here permanently in 2012 Island Explorer trained me. I thought I would give this a try for a couple of years. Well, 15 years later I’m still here and I’m not alone. When I first came to work for Downeast Transportation I figured I’d work 1 year maybe 2. That was 7 years ago. What impressed me from the beginning was management made you feel you were part of their family. Willing to work with you and accommodate your work needs, they go out of their way to show you they appreciate you the whole season.
